I have a fire tablet and heard there is some way of accessing android apps or turning it into an android device. Anyone done this?

yes. google it and you should find instructions easily enough.

I have several fire tablets
You need to root it and install an APK manager
If you need a lot of apps don't bother
There is a very little memory and there is no way to install additional internal memory
