You can see toxicity ratings for many of the products you use every day. Theyre rated from 1 to 10, 1 being the least toxic, 10 being the most toxic.

Unfortunately none of the lesser known brands are rated, but there are thousands of products rated.

Traditional skin-care products can often contain potentially harmful chemicals that can irritate skin, so you should look for products that are formulated with natural ingredients and without questionable chemicals. But since there’s no official definition for the term “natural,” you should be aware that even if a brand claims to be natural, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true.

It’s important to check ingredients and watch out for parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and formaldehyde, as well as mineral oil, artificial fragrance, and silicones. You can also check the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics Database for more detail.

There are plenty of natural ingredients that are irritants. Thus, a synthetic can be better for the skin than many natural ingredients.

Natural has nothing to do with less harmful.

99% of cosmetic ingredients are synthetic. Some are more toxic, some are less. Theres a wide range. Hopefully theres some honesty and reason to the EWG test results, that are available for free, btw.

Sunscreen, which is applied to most exposed skin, could be an issue if it has carcinogens or doesn't prevent sunburn.

Any product used for babies and young children need to be safe.

I don't think most adults get sick from lead in lipstick or formaldehyde in nail polish but it could possibly be toxic if used on kids when everything ends up in their mouths.
