Curious as to what kind of income the Shtisels have in the soap opera?
The father is a teacher - Akive Shnitzel is semi-unemployed. His brother appears to be in Kollel.
And yet, the father has bought apartments for all the children and appears to have no economic concerns when planning Akive's wedding.
The Bubbe has been secretly paying the father's salary for at least two years.
Is this like a lot of American television in which unless it is specifically part of the plot, the people live lives that seem detached from their actually economic means.

Isn't it the norm for parents in Israel to buy each of their kids an apt. when they get married? How do they do it in real life?

Don't forget, Lipa asked his FIL for some money to buy into or open a store, IIANM, and when his FIL refused, he took a job as a shochet or mashgiach in South American to make ends meet.

I'm pretty sure that's soap opera finances, right there.
Many old Yerushalamim have had their apartments since the yishuv. But a wedding without any financial heartache, and many mouths to feed? Nisht.

In Israel the mentality is, apartments are bought for married kids. Many are in kollel & not working. They still buy apartments even if they cant afford it. Guess how they have the money? Many come knocking on the American doors. They come knocking to American doors, where they think money grows on trees in America, sometimes they knock at a door, where resident is a tenant & still doesn't own his own apt yet....forget about apts for the kids. They sometimes get upset if you don't give them too much....crying about hochnosos kallah, huge families, father can't work, illness, aniyei Eretz yisroel etc.....
What they dont realize is many Americans are dealing with the same issues, despite putting in the hard work.
I live in an apt building so they come here first. We can literally have people knocking every 2 minutes for money.
Btw fyi mitzvah of tzedaka is that priority to to own family & lands people

No that is absolutely not the norm in Israel! Maybe it's the norm among a few charedi groups who go begging in America.
Most Israeli parents help their married kids with part of the downpayment, and usually not right when they get married, but after a good few years of renting. The 'kids' are then on their own in terms of paying mortgage.
