We are moving and planning on painting over the kitchen and living room.
I'd love to paint it a color not just off white etc.
Any ideas of a nice color that won't be "too much"
I'd love names of actual shades that you have experience with and are happy with.
Thanks!

Maybe pick 1 wall that is not the biggest and paint it in a cool color that u like. The other walls should be neutral though.

Depends on the color of your furniture, tiles and kitchen.

Some nice neutral taupes/greys are Benjamin Moore's:
\
Silver Satin
Balboa Mist
Nimbus
Edgecomb Gray
Gray Owl
Classic Gray

There are plenty of gorgeous colors if you want to go more blue/green/beige

My kitchen is blue.
My dining room is green.
Everyone who comes to visit comments that they love the colors and it's so unique.
I, too, love the colors. I feel I am in a home, not an office.

Op, visit a store and take home some paint chips. Look at their pictures for some ideas. Look at Pinterest.

Go on Benjamin Moore's website and query their suggestions for the specific room. You get the most up to date colors with professional decorator advice. We did that and they suggested a color combo that I never would have thought of. It looks amazing.

Everyone always compliments our paint colors.

It's really a matter of taste. For example, edgecomb gray, which a few people here recommend, is in my opinion lifeless and drab....

I did an accent wall. Do that if you don’t want to feel overwhelmed with a color, but want some color. Choose a more daring color as a statement. Make sure to have something in the room to pull it all together.

I love it! It depends on the lighting.

I've had lots of complements on Balboa Mist... but it really does depend on how the sun hits your room, and also the color of your floors.
I have Classic Gray in another room, and I"m not crazy about the look there.

So true! Once you have several candidate colors, it pays to paint sample squares on different walls and to see what the paints look like in natural and artificial light. I loved the idea of Balboa Mist, but was forced not to use it, because in our room it looked a weird pale shade of purple.

This is what I imagined this thread would be like. The 50 shades of grey is leaving me perplexed. Is grey really that beautiful on a wall?

I love my gray walls, but they're much deeper gray than the barely off-white tones suggested here.

Grey is the (not so new) beige.
It’s a neutral color.
It’s not comparable to blues and greens.

Actually, gray is dates already and browns are more in.
But I'm a big believer in doing what you love, not what others are doing.

Gray/beige can come in handy when your carpets, linens, pictures or furniture are colorful/bright and you want to tone it down/have a clean background.
