My 9 yr old dd destroys her shoes.
Literally the soles are shredded, the toes come apart from the sole, etc.
I try every brand possible- from payless to sketchers to vans.
I went to zappos, Nordstrom everywhere, same story.

I keep telling her I cant buy her a new pair every other month. Dh says she can't go to school with holes in her shoes.
I think she is old enough to learn to be careful, but no matter how many times I tell her this, she isn't.

This latest pair started ripping after 2 weeks, now after 1 month they're destroyed totally.
Ideas please on how to teach her?
It's getting rediculous.

She could be very heavy on her feet. She could extremely active.
It could be completely not her fault.
(Or yes, she could just be very irresponsible.)

Have you tried putting taps on her shoes or getting sneakers with a thick sole.

Can you buy a pair of chunky, durable sneakers for her to wear as soon as she comes home from school?

These are all sneakers, I don't buy shoes for her for school anymore .
She comes home from school with her sneakers ripped to shreds.
She will not wear anything clunky or not to her very specific taste.
I got a replacement from zappos for the last pair (starter to tear after 2 weeks) but I feel like how am I teaching her to be careful if I keep replacing the shoes?

Some kids have a walk/foot that tears the shoes faster. It's not her fault. Maybe she needs arches or taps. Some kids just need new shoes every 2 months.

Puce, how do I know if that's the case or if she is irresponsible?
I took her to a specialist shoe store thinking those would hold up longer. Nope, same story.

(Don't think taps can be put on sneakers)

Just so you know, you are not alone. Maybe not quite as quickly but all of my chikdren do this to some degree. All of there shoes from erev pesach are an embarrassment - holes, ripped, shredded soles. In the same boat, cant afford to buy shoes every 2 months.

I don't think it's in your daughter's control. I have noticed that my two kids that have a heavy walk (the house shakes when they walk "gently") are the ones that need new shoes once a month.
I used to think it had to do with the quality of the shoes and then I tried it all and they all had the same lifespan .
At this point I stick to Walmart and hand me Downs. I go to Burlington or Nordstrom before yomim Tovim or a special occasion so that they have a "better" pair every so often.

It's not the heavy tread bec I have a ds who stomps & so I know why he kills his shoes.

She plays on the school playground & in our grass.

Have you tried buying something more durable like geox or primigee? You can sometimes find them at amazon for an affordable price.

Is she flat footed? That can be causing it too.

Flat feet or bow legs can be the cause of this

The only shoes DS doesn't destroy are Geox.

But not the Geox with mesh sides - only leather/rubber on the sides.

I use Crocs slip on for after school. I always wonder why my kids shoes look like they went through a war zone while everyone elses looks brand new. I think any amount of playing in shoes will ruin them.

She won't wear Geox. Last year sketchers was acceptable, those lasted slightly longer than the vans/keds type sneakers but they tore too.
I'm not sure if she is flat footed (how do I check?) Can being flat footed shred the soles & cause the toes to separate from the rubber in front & from the soles?

Take her to a good podiatrist to look at how she walks in case that's the issue.

What is she doing with her shoes/feet that you want to teach her to take better care?

Have you observed her walking and running? Does she lift her feet of the ground, or does she she drag them on the pavement?

Does she do activities where she twists a lot on the balls of her feet?
