I'm not sure if she is flat footed (how do I check?) Can being flat footed shred the soles & cause the toes to separate from the rubber in front & from the soles? |
sketchers are really crappy shoes.

It's the gait of her walk. Looks like you'll need a store with no question returns until you have her checked out. Maybe Nordstrom, Kohls, Lands End, Eddie Bauer or Costco.

Unless your daughter is taking scissors to her shoes, there really is nothing that she can do that would make her easier on shoes.
Shoe care is generally thought of in terms of learning how to wax and polish shoes - put shoe trees in to hold their shape or not to wear delicate dressy shoes to play in the dirt.
As others have suggested you could take her to a foot doctor and see if there is something structurally wrong but without knowing exactly what shoes she is wearing, I suspect the issue is with the shoes rather than with your daughter since you say she won't wear "clunky" shoes. I am not sure what the definition is but I suspect my mother made me wear clunky shoes as a kid - I.e. the kind of shoes with thickish leather from stores like Striderite and NOT the thin leather patent leather shoes I coveted :-).

my daughter, up until she was eighteen I spent on shoes every six months.
Each child is a package deal.
arches helped a little, though.

six months- halevai! now its not even a month till they tear..... yeah, stride rite is out too. she's too fashionable lol.
I went to nordstrom, she shredded the rubber soles totally after a few months. dh said she wore it so I can't return it. that's why I tried zappos, same story.

A few months is not that bad for rubber soles.
Try Lands End next. Their shoe styles are never quite right for my kids but they are definitely serious about their return policy.

She needs real sneakers like new balance not vans or keds.

I agree as it seems as though OP is getting "fashion" shoes which aren't intended for every day wear by children.
When I was a kid, Keds would barely last two months of summer because they have thin soles and thin canvas. And that really wasn't wearing them every day all day.

I am very hard on shoes. I still haven’t figured out why.

I am also very hard on my shoes. Always was. I think it's because I have very wide feet, and every time I step, I am putting pressure against the sides. Does your daughter have wide feet?

No wide feet.
Sigh yeah I don't like these keds or vans type of shoe either. I think I'm going to have to insist on a thicker soled shoe.
The question is what to do w the replacement pair from zappos? They sent another one of what she currently has which clearly isn't going to last.

Stop buying her fashionable shoes. She has a choice- ripped shoes or the clunky sneakers. Don't waste money on the thin soled ones that you know won't last. Sorry... to me it seems that you are teaching her that fashion is worth wasting money on...
Plus take her to a specialist who can check her gait, arches etc.

My 13 year old also destroys her shoes on a regular basis. One thing we are trying to work on is early intervention - as soon as a shoe starts to come apart - we fix it. She has a cheap pair that she doesn't like, and that is what she wears while shoes are being fixed or replaced.

Could also be that they are fitting too small on her, that's why her toes come climbing out in no time.
My ds used to ruin shoes fast, you know the fashionable slip on type.
Now he has Geox sneakers with heavy rubber coming up in the forefront. He got them end of winter & still look like new. He is very active & has wide feet with a heavy walk. He is 6. He didnt get those stylish slip on shoes or sneakers all kids are wearing now. Just the big boy type with double velcro. The only thing we have to watch is not to get a kick from him, because those heavy rubber shoes hurt when you are kicked with.
This company is usually expensive, got it by end of season. sale, a style that works for all year round.

I have a very high arch and never ever rip my shoes. And I am extremely active.
On the other hand my husband and daughter have flat feet and hardly move, yet their shoes look like they have been to the wars after 2 months.
My DH found one brand that works for him and lasts a year max.
For my daughter I just have to buy two pairs a season. Not much to do about it. (Thats roughly 4.5 pairs a year just for weekday.)

Do you live in a climate where she can wear sandals (with socks if that's what you do)? I find they last longer than shoes. Alternatively something really tough like Blundstone ankle boots.

What can she be doing that would make this her fault?
All I do is “regular” walking- no gymnasticts at my age! And my shoes dont look to good pretty quickly.

Please don't blame her for wrecking her shoes. If you are buying her the shoes she likes, why would she want to ruin them? That doesn't even make sense.
Naot makes very nice, comfortable shoes, and they last forever. The insoles can be replaced when they get too flattened from wear. I walk everywhedore I go, and I have shoes that have lasted 10 years! They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Lots of really cute styles to choose from, enough to satisfy any fashionista.
Definitely have her evaluated by a podiatrist, and a doctor who studies movement (what would that be called, an orthopedist?) If she has low muscle tone, she may be dragging her feet a lot. Is she at all clumsy? Maybe some physical therapy is in order.

reminds me of how my mom used to go nuts when my tights ripped.
She once asked the saleslady how I should take better care of them, and how long they should last on average.....
She then took that answer literally and rationed my tights
