I was reading an article about how many performance spaces have started requiring the audience to use these:

Basically, it's a pouch that you put your phone inside and you can't open it up without an unlocking base. You keep your phone with you at all times, so there are no concerns about anything happening to your phone, it's just inaccessible.
Seems like this would be a great idea for schools (obviously I'm talking about schools where kids are allowed to own phones, if they're not, then this is moot). Kids can keep their phones, so no concerns about liability or mix ups. The pouches would be unlocked at the end of the day. I know they're probably expensive, and there would still be some logistical issues, but it does seem like a solution that should be considered.

Me too! Though it might be a bit more difficult logistically. Gotta make sure the kids don't know where the unlocking device is

We have shoe bags by the door. Students kvetch but they are not actually scared of anything happening to their phones as they can see it at any time.
