Hi, anybody have experience buying a used minivn, like a Dodge or Chrysler? All the used car places in Lakewood sell mainly Siennas and average between $15,000 and $20,000. Im looking to spend around 10K. Thanks

Look in ads in the papers and the BMG coffee room. Dealers focus on the more expensive cars.

About 3 years ago Dodge stopped making the grand caravan. They started a new model called the Pacifica. The first batch is just coming off the leases now and making it to used car sales however there were some issues with the first couple of models so that's may be why places aren't selling them. Why don't you call a couple of dealers and ask what minivan they would recommend in your price range. If they don't have it in stock they'll keep an eye out for it at the next few auctions.
Good luck!!

Thanks. Just to clarify, Dodge still makes the grand caravan. It was Chrysler who stopped the town and country, which is a similar car

There’s a reason the dealers sell those.

A) quality- the Toyota and Honda’s are the longest lasting minivans. More the Toyota’s than the Honda’s
B) the cars of these companies retain their value. Meaning if you buy a sienna now for $22k use it for 5 years and then want to sell it you will def make back some money, whereas the dodges and Chrysler’s are junk cars that their value depreciates very quickly and you will have no remaining assets in it.

Would you finance a car?

Not at all. You can go to any junkyard and find cheaper cars. Dealers like to sell cars that last and are quality as it would reflect poorly on them if the car they sell is inferior.

There’s something about buying a car from a reputable dealer and knowing what you are really getting...
It doesn’t have to be expensive
If you buy a 10k dodge it may only last you two years and then you’ll need another 10k car

You may as well but a 17k quality van from a reputable honest dealer that will last you for another seven years...

The OP wasn’t asking for an opinion on what minivan she should get— she wants to know where she can find the minivan that she already chose.
OP— from my limited experience, the Lakewood places mostly have the Toyota and Hondas because currently, those are the models which have 8 seats, which tend to be most desirable for a frum family.
Check sites like auto trader and cars.com— you shouldn’t have any problem finding a used caravan from a dealer in your area on one of those sites. Oh, also checkout carmax— they probably have tons of used caravans and are known to be very reliable.
You can also google “used car mechanical inspection” and there are all sorts of companies that will send a mechanic out to the dealership for you, check the car, and give you a full report. This runs under $200, I think.

FWIW— at one point, I purchased an 8 year old caravan for 7K. I had it for almost 11 years and put close to 90K miles on it. So don’t listen to all the naysayers who assume that you are going to replace the caravan in 3 years...

Thanks all. Bottom line is we have around 10k to spend. If we can get something decent that'll last a few years I'll be happy. Id rather not finance as we have enough monthly expenses 😄
