I'm having a whole bunch of bochurim for both meals this shabbos. What are bochur-y foods to make? I have time to patchke.
So far, I have tons of dips, sauteed liver, herring, pulled beef pizza, smoked pastrami, smoked brisket, cholent (with kishke and probably kugel) .
(And the usuals- challah, soup, fish, fresh salads).
What are some sides?
How about some kind of chicken dish (not breaded) for Friday night?
A yummy dessert?

Deli roll for a side
Sounds like you have plenty of food already!
For dessert you can do a warm runny chip recipe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Sounds like you have plenty! Sounds so yummy! I find that in recent years when having bochrim they appreciate a good salad. I have made a good shnitzel salad and the bowl was basically licked clean.

I'm drooling. Except I dont have enough ramekins, plus my dishwasher just broke, and the idea of washing all those ramekins makes me sad

Bochurim don't need pretty desserts any cake or cookies should be fine.

Lol you're so right! Probably just gonna do that.
But I love pretty desserts, and this way I have an excuse to make it, yknow?

Just keep in mind the letter I read in the yated a few weeks ago from a bachur who felt bad for the hostess that had prepared so much food that the bachurim couldn't possibly finish!!
Evererything sounds super delicious but it also sounds like you have enough for an army!!! LOL
(Better to invite more often and not make yourself crazy every time!)

In my experience, I would stick with foods along the lines of:

Challah with dips
Chicken soup with matza balls
Gefilte fish
Coleslaw
Liver and egg salad
Shnitzel
Potato kugel- even better if overnight kugel or yapchik
Cholent
Kishka
Deli roll
Deli platter
Franks in blanks
Potato borekas with mushroom sauce
Sesame noodles
Basic lettuce salad

And some yummy cakes/cookies for dessert

Basically, skip the elaborate stuff and stick with "bochur" style food. Lol. Good Luck!!

I make them in disposable aluminum muffin tins and they pop out perfectly. But truthfully they will be thrilled with cake and sweets

Mayo, sugar, water, garlic powder, lemon juice, black pepper...I'm not great with measuring the ingredients I just kind of put in a little of this and that Smile
