Well I got these at the insistence of my pediatrician
My children cannot seem to figure it out until they turn 4
So your mileage may vary...

Hi, I found these cups great-it took my dd a bit of time to grasp the concept-she was around a year when I got the cup for her-
I had another such cup made by 'nuby' which she found easier as it took less pressure from her to get the liquid out-
It wasn't quite the same as this, but very similar

I would sometimes push down on the top of the cup by her mouth to help her get the idea-it's the pressure on the silicone part that allows for the liquid to come through as it then separates from the lid
Not sure if I've explained it clearly enough but I think most kids take some time to get the concept-I actually got dd2 a straw bottle which also took her a bit of time to get used to-she was much older when she managed, but I heard from speech therapists and OTs that drinking through a straw is really good for oral motor muscles

My kids also had a hard time with those cups. They’re not easy to sip from and every time they get thrown on the floor we have a flood. We’re much happier with the munchkin weighted straw cup.

My son started using them very young like 5 months or so - so it definitely can be taught (I did it because he didn't take bottles....)
I think we held it for him at first in the position you'd give a bottle in and he'd drink it
I don't quite remember anymore...now they become a big mess though even the he still likes it as he figures out how to turn it in to a pitcher and pour with it 🙈

I”m not one to teach babies how to do things: I kind of let them figure it out themselves. I gave it to my girl at 11 months and she figured it right out (then again she couldn’t figure out how to eat from a pouch)
