What kind do I use after the infant car seat? Can anyone recommend one that they are happy with?

A convertible carseat, meaning one that can keep him rear facing until at least age two, and can then be forward facing for another few years. You didn't mention any preferences, so I'll just recommend a well priced seat that lasts a long time and is super easy to use- Graco contender 65. My kids have been comfortable in it from newborn through age 5.

I am very happy with the Diono Radian RXT. It’s narrow, comfortable and easy to install. Was worth every penny!
