Can you do sleep training for the middle-of-the-night wakings only?
Baby falls asleep with a bottle and I know the rule is to put her down drowsy but awake. But since she's going to sleep nicely B"H, why mess with that?
Can we just train for the nighttime wakings or do we have to start with the first bedtime of the night?
Thanks!

When sleep training they say to cut out the middle feeding first I think, which is the one you are talking about anyways.
Could be I'm wrong but that's what I remember

It all starts at bedtime. Whatever happens then is what they expect when they wake up in the middle of the night. Separate the bottle from bedtime by 30 minutes and go from there. Are you saying you’d leave her to cry when she wakes up? So there would be crying anyway, it may as well be at a more productive time.

Please don’t let her cry it out. Especially if she is under 6 months.

I always did separate trainings. One for falling asleep independently and one for middle of the night feedings.

OP didn’t say that she plans to use CIO. There are several different sleep training methods

If she learns how to fall asleep on her own at bedtime, she will be able to fall asleep on her own in the middle of the night.
I did sleep training at bedtime first, then over a month wean off night-time feedings (put in less and less formula and then finally water so its "not worth it" for the baby to wake up)
I can't imagine that she'll go for "training" in middle of the night if you're giving her a bottle to fall asleep with at bedtime. She'll want that bottle in middle of the night, too!

You can do whatever you want but every book I have read on the subject recommends fixing the bedtime routine first before working on the other wakings so they wouldn’t advise doing what you are asking

I think I cut-out nighttime feedings before I stopped nursing to sleep.

Depends on the baby. It could be she's expecting her milk to fall back asleep since she fell asleep with it. Is she old enough for a bottle of water? They say that if you give them water in the middle of the night they stop waking up for it
