I recall making potato kugel a few years ago using EVOO and it really tasted of olive oil (in a very bad way). I want to make Jamie Geller's potato kugel cups which specifically call for olive oil. Has anyone tried this or any other potato kugel using EVOO with success?

I only use olive oil in it. It tastes so much better. But to lower the calories, I don’t put any in the batter, only in the pan, then on top of the batter.
I’m in Israel, so the brands I use won’t help you.

I had a feeling that would be the answer- I wonder why JG is so insistent on using Extra Virgin. Thanks.

Extra virgin has a very strong taste. Some people like it, some don't. It's a matter of taste. You can use light olive oil just as well.

I use olive oil on pesach. I use the extra light.

Extra virgin is supposed to be very healthy, but I dislike the strong taste of it.

I always use extra light oil. EVOO tastes too strong and specific IMO.

Also, EVOO doesn't do well in high temp oven, x lite can tolerate the heat better
