I moved into a house that wasn't brand new and I noticed that it has a bad smell on the 2nd floor. I tried plug-ins and it helped somewhat but they don't last long and you have to keep replacing them. Is there any other things I can try that will keep my house smelling good always? Any specific potpourri scent that is very good? Some of the potpourri I've smelled is horrible. TIA

Locate where the bad smell is coming from and clean it. It's better to have a scent on a neutral background than trying to mask a smelly one.

I'm pretty sure it's coming from the carpets and they were already cleaned before we moved in. The carpets probably need to be replaced but there is nothing I can do about that since I don't own the house and the owner is not replacing the carpets. I need some other suggestions.....
