Hi,
I am planning a trip to cape cod, MA -- leaving Tue morning and returning home to Brooklyn on Friday.
On Thursday, I would like to start heading back home, so that we do not hit traffic on Friday.
We would like to visit Newport, RI on the way back, but I wondering if we should spend Thursday night in Newport, or if that leaves us with too much of a drive for Friday, and too risky before shabbos? Should we instead drive further on Thursday evening, towards Connecticut and spend there Thursday night, so that we are closer to home on Friday morning? If so, where would be a good place to stop for the night? Preferably, it would be a point of interest, someplace we can spend an hour or two on Friday morning before heading back home. ( Considering Mystic, but we have already been there in the past, so someplace new would be great.)
I very much appreciate your help. I need to book some hotel rooms before everything is taken! Thanks!!

Yes I think Connecticut is better. Stamford that has a Jewish community is about an hour drive.
Maybe look for something to do there ?
That’s what I would do instead of driving from Newport Friday morning.
This way you can do something in Connecticut and not feel nervous .

Thanks, Elisheva. The more I think about it, the more I feel we should get to CT by Thursday night, so that we are not not nervous driving back home on Friday. (Being nervous can ruin an otherwise perfect trip!)

Easily can be done. Just depends how much time you want in Newport.

If you're going with kids, you could stop in New Haven about halfway back and take them to IT indoor ropes course which is literally adjacent to I-95. Also check out Gillette Castle as another option.
