Here's the place to discuss unicorns, werewolves, and mermaids!

What do you believe in? A unicorn is an animal with one horn. Could be a rhinoceros. The mermaids in historical records were proven to be fakes.

and I find the subject of binyamin being a werewolf fascinating. like how could an entirely human mother/father give birth to a baby who is half wolf? genetic mutation!?

and if yaakov was worried about sending him to mitzrayim b/c he would turn into a wolf, why did he let them go? how could yehuda's reassurance be enough? if his reassurance was enough, that means it wasn't a secret? if so, how could yosef endanger his brother and call him down to mitzrayim?

just some musings...

Here the real question op- fantastic beasts and WHERE DO WE FIND THEM?

Oooh! I’d love to meet a mermaid! (Just kidding according to the Gemara they are ferocious nasty feral creatures not all like the sweet Disney beauties we imagine then to be.)

I believe that manatees were mistaken for mermaids.

Like I said on the other thread, go to TorahAnytime.com and look up Rabbi Shay Tahan's mini classes on all manner of fantastic beasts. Quite fascinating.

I first heard of Binyamin being a werewolf from a lecture by Rabbi Glattstein. I will try to find the link. He quotes a sefer called Otzer P'laos Hatorah about this and some other fascinating issues.

ETA - correction - it was a lecture by Rabbi Wallerstein.

It’s not so clear cut.

While werewolves are my favorite mythical creatures, the myth originated in Europe in the Middle Ages, in very Christian societies. Who’s next, Dracula?

Someone needs to do a show on this! My favorite vampire/werewolf shows don’t have any new episodes coming out for a while.

I’m serious that I’ve heard it, but I don’t believe it’s from a serious source, although maybe I’ll research it more. It’s all very fascinating but highly unlikely. Would make for a great story though!

The final season of Supernatural starts in October. I'm already in mourning.
