You do not want to be in the garden State parkway in the early afternoon on Friday.
I work about 20 miles north of where I live. It did take me 20-30 minutes from exit to exit. On Fridays it takes upwards of 40

Tons of traffic on gsp southbound Friday afternoons, everyone heading to the beaches for the weekends. Someone came to me 2 weeks ago left Brooklyn at 3, and arrived at 6.
