When I turn it on it has these horizontal lines going across the screen and I can’t use it. It’s an acer laptop one year old

Does it have a touchscreen?
Those are particularly fragile.
Unfortunately, the screen probably cracked.
Do you see any cracks on the screen?
Did it get a bang?

Have you tried shutting off the laptop and restarting?

That’s upsetting.
I suppose the year-long warranty expired?
No extended warranty was purchased?

If you don’t get any help here, try giving Acer customer service a call tomorrow.
See if they can help you diagnose the problem over the phone.

Horizontal or vertical lines on a screen is typically a hardware problem. I would definitely give Acer a call, it shouldn’t happen so soon.

I had this recently, was told to go into display panel and click on personalize, and for some odd reason the lines stopped that second. Hodu l'Hashem because I was really worried. Try it? See if it works, and update!

I have that on mine-it seems to be a hardware thing because as I adjust the angle of the screen, it changes and sometimes disappears-think it might be a loose wire somewhere-if you find a solution, I'd love to know because I can't justify paying for repairs or a new laptop

If it were not a hardware problem, it would probably show up on a monitor if you plugged in a monitor.
