A "benny" is a city person who comes to the Jersey shore in the summer.

Just to update!
We finally got to the beach on Sunday night. Went about 6:30 and was only frum families there. There were no ppl in bathing suits at that time of day. The Kids had a great time and adults did too:) only downside is the trail of sand everywhere afterwards!!!

Yes, there are bathrooms on the boardwalk at the beach in Long Branch.

ETA: Here's a cut and past of the directions I posted last year.

To go to W Long Branch, take the 195E (becomes 138) to Rt 18 North. Get off at the Deal Road exit 11A, and take Deal Road all the way to the end (you will cross Rt 35, keep going). Make a left at Monmouth Ave (where Deal Road ends) and go for 2 lights, make a right at Roosevelt Avenue. Take that to Ocean Avenue, be sure to enjoy the gorgeous mansions and gnarled trees as you drive. Make a left on Ocean Avenue - you will see the ocean and the beach at this point. We like to drive past the mansions there, and there's a bridge, just over the bridge there are side streets on the right where you can park and go right to the boardwalk and the visitors entrance to the beach.

The bathrooms are right nearby if you follow these directions.

I know this is an old thread. I'd like to know if this information is still accurate?

Which beach has the best chance of being really empty for older boys to go?
Which time of day does it empty out?

TIA!

Beaches are generally empty in the evening. But there are no life guards. I would be worried about rip currents like the one that drowned Rabbi Bauman. Do you know if they form at the NJ beaches?

Mantoloking beach, which is what this thread is about, is actually one of the more dangerous beaches; a year or two ago someone drowned there. It is absolutely beautiful but lifeguards are there until 6:00, after that you should not allow your kids in past their knees. If you go before 6:00 you will need to buy passes, $10/person over 12 years.

I would not go to a deserted beach. It's extremely unsafe.

In years past I took my family. Kids go in till their knees and everyone holds hands.

We do that or less. But this story with Rabbi Bauman scares me. They say the boys were barely in the water and got swepped up in a wave.

If there's a rip tide chas veshalom, till the knee's is way to deep. It can sweep one up even if you're on shore. And kids are not strong enough to pull anyone back.

Is the beach down cedarbridge referenced to here open this summer? Has anyone been there recently in the late afternoon on a weekday to tell me if its empty and appropriate for boys? Thanks
