Do you think it's ok to give the name Meir if there is a living grandparent (Ashkenazi) named Meirah?

I know someone with the last name of Meir, who married someone named Meyers. Now the last names are hyphenated.

Wouldn't it be funny if Meir/Meirah married into that family! Wink

Yes. Totally fine.

It's also okay to name your kids Meir and Meira, Yehuda and Yehudis, Baruch and Bracha, etc.

My grandfathers last name was Mayers (he actually shortened it when he came to the states). Besides a brother who became not religious, he was the only boy in his immediate family to survive the holocaust and had only one child, a girl. After he was niftar, no one could name after him because my father has the same name and he didn't want anyone to, so my brother named his child, Meir in addition to his first name which has a connection to his name. Now in the family there are two of them Smile .

My dd knows someone David BenDavid. Why did his parents name him David??
