Question,
Before I had kids, I ate anything and everything and weighed about 110 lb. I gained about 50 lbs when pregnant. Lost some weight earlier but not all of it. Now, I can eat what I want and my weight stays the same, so I’m assuming I have high metabolism. Trying to lose some more weight now by going walking, going to the gym, and eating salads and healthy foods. But can that backfire? Can it teach my metabolism that it needs exercise and low calorie counts in order to work, and slow it down when I get to my desired weight when I go back to my regular carbs? I’d rather not lose any weight and eat carbs if exercise will kill my metabolism!

Moderate exercise and healthy diet can only benefit you, unless you have particular health risks. I have a fast metabolism also and I've never found that changing my diet or exercise routine affected that. Regardless, I'd rather make healthy choices for myself than worry about my metabolism.

If you are concerned that exercising for weight loss will harm your metabolism, focus on endurance training instead.

Actually, if you don't eat enough and do a lot of exercise, you can harm your muscles.

When you exercise, a higher protein diet helps build muscles rather than fat.
