We bought a used 2007 Honda Odyssey 8-seater not quite 2 years ago . (updated as I checked 116K mi). We were told that it needs a new/rebuilt transmission. We got a "bandaid" solution for not-hwy driving which for where we live is adequate. We were given a quote of 2700 for a 1 year-warranty rebuilt trans, or $4k+ for a 4 year-warranty trans. We need the minivan due to our family size, it's possible that we may need an even bigger van in a few years. We also want to add a 2nd vehicle to our family. Is it worth fixing or saving for our vehicle upgrade?

I'd fix it. The Honda likely has a lot of good years left in it, that transmission is usually the sore spot in those cars. If you have the money, I'd put in the transmission. I'd probably put in the rebuilt one, it should give you more years than the warranty.
But also try to get other quotes, you might be able to save a few hundred.

A mechanic who's trustworthy is in the best position to answer that.
