The businesses probably have a heter to stay alive. The customers probably have a heter because a big sale is a brief opportunity. Individuals need to combine AYLOR with personal judgment of appropriateness.

Wouldn't it also make a difference, what the purpose of the shopping is?

Yes. A Rav just told us we can buy school supplies during the 9 days.

Aylor! I'm finishing construction. I was told that I can buy whatever is necessary not to halt the construction.

Most stores in Monsey are closed during the 9 days.
Really we're not supposed to go shopping but under certain circumstances it is allowed. You need to ask.

I’m wondering...if pregnant and a certain insta store gets in items (which they hold until after birth) that might sell out during 9 days (they don’t get lots of stock). Am I allowed to order? Not going to use yet tho
No bashing please
I didn’t order anything yet, just wondering in case something adorable comes in
ETA-I have a huge break of 9 years since last child and have ZILCH for this baby. So I can’t afford to wait until birth pol

Amother babyblue, I'm ih due any day and I also didn't have a baby in years. I didn't buy anything yet, we'll get everything we need after baby is born ih.
But ask a sheila if you may shop during the 9 days.

That's so interesting - I'm almost sure my Rav told me that I can during mine.

My LOR said time sensitive things that will not be available after you can buy. But I have read opposite psakim elsewhere. So it's a real AYLOR situation but you may be able to do it so don't panic.
I never even thought of asking about things like school supplies. It's not a Shabbos or Yom tov that you can't go shopping. The point is to not have pleasure.

I was wondering the same when I saw an ad in mishpacha for a fur sale in Brooklyn that took place yesterday. I doubt the vendor was frum or possibly even Jewish but I can’t imagine a frum yid buying a luxury such as a fur during the nine days no matter how reduced the price is.

Fur is not a luxury in this heat.

I have an online baby gift shop. I asked a shaylah and was told that I can operate in the 9 days as usual.
