IM AT 342 west 40 manhattan. From my hotel window I see a huge open parking lot on a third or 4th floor. I see a building that half is like a copper glass amd half blue glass. to my right. and to the left a thin concrete building that has a billboard mentioning "hotel pod pads furnished appartments . how do I figure out shmonei esre? TIA

In Manhattan, avenues run north-south, and increase in number to the west. So in your case, your hotel is between 8th and 9th Ave, closer to 9th Ave. 9th Ave is to your west; 8th Ave is to the east. I'm not familiar with that building or the landmarks on your block, but if you can figure out which way is 8th Ave, that is roughly east.
