This isn’t about anyone in particular, but just the concept in general. Lots of books and films have come out in the past decade or so that cast Torah observant communities in a bad light, usually by people with an axe to grind or agenda to push. Let’s say that after getting their message out there, they have a change of heart and want to come back? Do you think they should be welcomed back into the community? What would they have to do or say to prove their sincerity? Are there situations where they shouldn’t be allowed back because of previous things like that? Where do you draw the line? Should there be some kind of restitution demanded of them first?
Again, this isn’t about anyone in particular. It just occurred to me that when someone puts a very public message out there, whether or not they were malicious in their intent, they’re risking burning bridges. How should we as a community approach these people? Does it make a difference if the person is on the fence and might be able to be brought back/considering teshuva, vs. already firmly renouncing their old ways?
Curious what people think.

I think alot of ppl may be angry and hurt, but the vast majority will be grateful and happy that a Jewish neshama is coming home. Sometimes I'm hopelessly naive, though.

Hashem accepts the Teshuvah of every single Yid, no matter how low they've fallen. Why shouldn't we?
Besides, what's done is done. What would we gain by not "allowing" them back into the community? It may be difficult to forgive and forget, and a person like that would definitely face a lot of hostility and distrust. But if you're asking what our ideal reaction should be, then of course it's to welcome them and do whatever we can to help them come back again.
Leave the judging up to Hashem. He doesn't need our help.
May all Yiddishe Neshamos come back home!
