How much do you spend every month? How many cars do you have and how much rent/taxes do you have to pay? I am asking because I want to see if we spend too much.

Can you afford what you spend and do you put anything away?
It is not about how much others spend. What others do is irrelevant.

Yes, as the above poster said it's about working out if you are affording your current lifestyle. If not, there's loads of ways to cut down on different things.

We spend about 3k a month
Rent and Utilities $1100
Food $500
Car Payments and Insurance (2 cars, a necessity with our schedule and jobs) $500
Gas $200
Heath Insurance $250 (only for dh, I’m on my parents)
Student Loans $100
Household Stuff, Misc, Clothes $300
Tzedaka $100 minimum depending on month...

We live very simply and both of us are working but not making a lot because we are starting out in our fields. I’m due in a few months and no idea how we are gonna add daycare to our budget Sad

What difference does it make what someone else spends because they will live in a different place and have different income and will also probably be in a different stage of life.

All anyone can advise is to save as much as possible without denying yourself what you can reasonably afford.

$100/month tzedaka is appropriate if your combined Net income is 12K annually.

Yes we are giving a lot less than maaser right now, but since we are living paycheck to paycheck and paying Bonei Olam back for fertility treatments...in our situation it’s what we can do right now. We are getting back on our feet after a lot of medical expenses so we hope to be able to give full maaser soon.

I don't remember exactly how much we spent as a young couple, but we lived very simply and saved as much as we could. We rented a studio apartment which we furnished sparsely with Ikea furniture and had 1 car. We cooked most of our own food and went out to eat only rarely. We didn't have children right away and we were able to save enough to put down a down payment on a house within 3 years, by the time I was pregnant with our oldest child.

This is the best time for you to save as much as possible before you have other commitments and responsibilities! Children are wonderful, but they're expensive even before you need to start paying tuition. JMHO

These costs totally depends on where you live!!!

Our rent is 600 euros per month.. you could never have such a low rent in NY.

Here's our spending list:

Income after taxes : 2100 euros (me), 750 euros (dh)

Rent 600
Electricity, internet, phones: 80
Food: 250
Other things: 50-200 depends on the month or what we need
Car: 180
Health insurance : 104 (him), mine is paid from my income before taxes

If you feel comfortable answering - what level is your DH at? I also work at a CRA and always wondered how my salary compared to others.

Sounds like you're doing a good job. 2 cars insurance included for $500 is great. Food $500 is pretty good too, do you go away most shabbosim? I'm spending closer to $800.
Not bad for health insurance either, DH quote was a lot higher.
Wondering where you guys live.

Regarding upcoming baby...basha'ah tovah! I was super worried about this too but somehow it worked itself out. Probably faith more than budget on this end.

$800? For 2 people?
We aim for $300 for 2 people. If we're being splurgy then we can spend closer to $400, but that rarely happens. It's usually around $350.
Even $500 seems high to me

ETA: this is NOT Meant to be a "I spend less than you post". You seem to be surprised that someone is spending $500 😀 so I'm saying that even if u splurge I don't get there lol
