Try to feed him a healthy snack if he regularly falls asleep before dinner

At least 11 hours at that age.
Keep in mind camp is very tiring if that’s what he is doing during the day.
Also- kids tend to grow more in the summer. Growth spurts require more sleep and good nutrition.

I'd never wake my kid to eat. He'll eat in the morning. He probably needs 12 hours of sleep.

12 hours of sleep is very normal at that age.
Try to have leftover dinner available for him to eat as soon as he gets home.

My 5.5 needs 12 hrs a night. Any less then that comes at a price.

There's no uniform answer. One of my sister's kids were all sleeping 14 hours at that age and she had to wake them up! (6pm-8am). They were all healthy and well, just needed more sleep.

Summer - camp especially - is very tiring!
