Problems with decoding stems from inadequate knowledge of phonics.
Many schools do not put enough emphasis on phonics for dyslexics who require extensive explicit instruction.
I have taught children with down syndrome to read by emphasizing phonics.

I work with many children with various reading difficulties. TouchPhonics is an excellent system for children who are dyslexic, or simply having difficulty learning phonics, phonemic awareness, auditory discrimination, and application of rules. Sight words, not dependent on specific decoding rules often requires different intervention. Only work with someone who has experience in all these areas, otherwise you will never catch up to where she needs to be.
