We need to relocate to Brooklyn and don't even know where to start looking...

Can someone discribe the different neighborhoods - who lives where? (and if only part of the neighborhood be specific as to what part - like till what street)?

Thanks

It would be easier if you first describe your affiliation and what you are looking for.
You Sephardic, jpf, chassidishe, yeshivish etc..
looking for schools? Jobs etc...

Not sure how to describe us. I guess we would be called yeshivish but not very yeshivish if that makes any sense...

You might do well in Marine Park.

What type of families are in Marine Park? What schools do they send their kids to? Are there frum families all over the neighborhood - or should we be looking at certain streets?

Do you know anything about Flatlands? I see its near Marine park and the housing looks a bit cheaper. Are there frum people there?

There is no one type in Brooklyn. There are Jews from all ends of the spectrum.

Midwood area but it’s more expensive.

The 30's, marine park or if you are more adventurous or looking for a less expensive and less Jewish neighborhood, Mill Basin.

It is not a given that a block in Marine Park is a drum block. If that’s important to you do your checkout.

I think Mill Basin is actually a very Jewish neighborhood.

I would say that it is always difficult to put large communities into neat little boxes.

There are many different types in Brooklyn, I will try to list some of the neighborhoods, please note that these are just majorities, but you can find every type in each neighborhood.

1. Marine Park - most people there come from yeshiva backgrounds and you have a mix of yeshivish, yeshiva light and a little more yeshiva left
2. Midwood - home to the older community it is a mix of more affluent older couples, middle aged couples and some Young Israel. This neighborhood is also seeing in influx of some chassidish families. More "heimish".
3. Madison - here you will find a mix of American families, heimishe families and sephardic families. Not as expensive as Midwood, but not as cheap as Marine Park
4. Mill Basin - I don't know as much about this neighborhood, I think there is a Chabbad Presence and it is less "all frum". The houses are beautiful but expensive.
5. Kensington - probably the cheapest, and mix of yeshivish and american modern.

There are other neighborhoods too, ladies help me out here!

My advice is walk around the different neighborhoods, go for Shabbos and try out different shuls. Whenever moving to a new community, finding a shul is the first step.

Do you need to be close to schools? Shopping? Or are these things not important as you'll have time and cars?

I would agree with Marine park or the E30s of Flatbush
Schools to look into:

Girls: Lev Beis Yaakov, Mesores Beis Yaakov

Boys: Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel, Torah Vedaas, Ahavas Torah

There are many more yeshivas. These are just a few off the top of my head that I hear most about.

The 30’s in my opinion is the best option for young to middle aged families in your affiliation. Plenty of schools, shopping etc and a large social scene if you so desire.
