I personally steer clear of people who think rules are meant to be broken. However, these people are the ones who usually make effective change and are very dynamic and determined.

Every house will have rules to function smoothly. However, as a parent, I know that kids will not always follow the rules. I still try to enforce them, but don't get hysterical.

*feet will be on the couch
*food and snacks that are supposed to be eaten at the kitchen table, are eaten at the couch
*plates after dinner remaining on the table
..etc...

I remind the perpetrator of the house rule in each of these situations. Yes, I know that it's so comfortable to sit on the couch with your feet up munching chocolate chip cookies while reading your favorite new book....but there are house rules, dear.
