Has anyone had success eliminating mice in the house either with any of the zapper devices sold on Amazon, or scent-repellents?

Does anyone know of a good service in the Passaic, NJ area who will search for and close up any holes in & around the whole house?

(Am waiting to speak to an exterminator regarding using a powder which kills them, however they said that they do not come to dispose of dead mice. Therefore, & I'm not familiar with this so I might be wrong, but are there not going to be an accumulation of dead rodents in the hard to each places & walls etc where they are coming from? I'm unfamiliar with all of this, but am curious if this poses a new problem).

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I live in an apartment in Brooklyn, but for what it's worth, this is my experience with mice.

#1 most important- you need to seal up holes. Try to figure out where they're coming from. Otherwise, you can kill them, but they'll keep coming. Stuff up cracks and holes with steel wool.

Notice where they are. Where you see droppings. They'll generally stay in the same area. If they find a food source, they'll be back.

Poisons where kids/pets can't get them. No idea how effective they are. Doesn't hurt. I found bait stations worthless.

Zapper traps. Mixed effectiveness. The ones I bought kill only one at a time. Then you have to reset it. Positive: humanely kills them. But if you have a family of mice, one at a time is slow going. Tip: wear gloves when you handle it. Otherwise, the mice will smell you on the trap and avoid it.

Humane traps that keep mice alive- don't get unless you have a plan to deal with a live mouse.

Scent repellents- I tried mint essential oil mixed with water. It works to a degree. I think they're pretty good at keeping mice out. But it won't get rid of mice that you already have.

I found strong glue traps the most effective at trapping mice. You should release or kill them afterwards through.

Keep food inaccessible.

Re dead mice in walls. I would prefer this over live mice. The dead mouse smell goes away. I can't remember the time I saw online, but I think it was within two weeks.

After 10 years living in this house and never any mice, we're suddenly seeing. Or maybe it's the same one. Dh bought a trap that doesn't have poison or glue, just traps it. Then you throw it out. I said to release it outside but dh says it will find it's way back inside. Trapping seems cruel. Is there an issue of tzar baalei chaim? Is he right it will find its way back inside?
