I think this is in the wrong section. I personally love Carter's outfits, but I'm not necessarily the most fashion savvy. For the toddler stage you want clothing that is durable and you are ok if it gets messy, and washes well.

As long as your not arguing with your dh about this we are in good shape! Scare me for a moment by the forum you chose.
Start with leggings and mixed tops.

That sounds like a serious shalom bayis problem. You should probably ask a therapist for some help.

That stage is the easiest and cheapest to dress. Leggings and tee's/swestshirts.

my baby is also turning one and has been in leggings with some t shirts for some time. I like stretchies for sleeping but leggings are just so much easier for changing a diaper and adorable! I went to primark ( im still an european at heart) and got him a bunch of adorable t shirts for 2 $ each. so everytime he stains them I dont become a nervous wreck and am just gonna throw them out at the end of the season. their undershirts and leggings (2.50 $ a piece) are amazing and wash way better than lil legs... oh and some stuff from ali express they have cute stuff!

My personal preference is leggings and tops. I like printed leggings, solid leggings, ribbed leggings, leggings with bows on them at the ankle etc.
I like solid t shirts, hoodies, tops with ruffles, pretty knit cardigans , pull over knit sweaters with pretty detail or cute detail and printed sweat shirts.
And of course coordinating socks for each outfit (my meshugas)
