Someone suggested this as a destination to include in the itinerary for a day in the city, as it's near the Highline Park which we would like to visit.
Is it indeed worthwhile? Is there anything kosher at the market?

We are not big sushi fans but Starbucks is always good!
Is the market itself an interesting place to visit, even if we don't actually eat anything there?

We enjoyed it very much. Very relaxing, interesting vendors.

I did not enjoy it at all. Dark, noisy, crowded, nothing other than non-kosher restaurants/food stands

There are some non-food vendors. And isn't there an Artists and Fleas market there? It's worth walking through (if you don't enjoy, just keep moving,) and the Highline is gorgeous.

Thanks - interesting to hear both perspectives.
I think that we will give it a spin since we are going to be in the area and I love food markets, even if I can't sample.
Worse comes to worse we'll just rush through it.

There is a really cool kitchen supply store, if you like that sort of thing. Enjoy!

The hudson vessel is nearby very interesting. To get the free admission you need to book online in advance.

So we did the Highline which was great and ended up at Chelsea market as planned.
I loved it (reference for Israelis- it's like Sarona in Tel Aviv but on steroids) but DH was testy cause he was hungry. He didn't enjoy being surrounded by all this food (including Eyal Shani's Miznon restaurant ) and not being able to eat.
So we didn't stay long unfortunately.
Saw the vessel from the Highline but hadn't booked in advance so didn't go in.
It's a really interesting architectural addition to the city.

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it, and sorry that you didn't have time to enjoy it as much as you may have wanted.

So, my day in the city unfortunately was not as great as I had hoped it would be.
I didn't plan it well enough.
I had calculated a lot more time for the High Line and Chelsea Market than we actually needed in the end and thus we had a big stretch of time post-lunch that wasn't planned too closely.
Also our ride into the city from the Princeton area by NJ Transit was shleppier than expected so we kind of arrived a bit worn out.
We spent time after lunch at Barnes and Noble (a big attraction for us, coming from Israel) and walked around the midtown area, visiting some of the big shops like Macy's.
If we had had more energy and time we would have headed uptown to the Jewish Museum which is a place I have read about (mostly criticism...) but have never visited and am curious to do so, to see if the criticism is validated.
We had also mulled a visit to the 9/11 memorial as we were going to be nearby, but had nixed the idea as too upsetting.
In previous trips though, we visited two museums that we found very worthwhile: the Museum of the City of New York and the Tenement Museum. Both are great for adults and (older) kids alike.
