I know someone who had a single woman be kvatter together with a married couple.

If you do this, please make sure that whoever is kvatter is comfortable with the kibbud.

DS#1 and wonderful DDIL gave single DS#2 kvatter at their son's bris. I think they figured it was a segulah to get married.

Traditionally, the kibbud of kvatter is given to a woman and a man, usually a couple. This is for practical reasons. The woman takes the baby from the mother and brings him to a man to carry into the shul. There's no reason why a single woman can't carry the baby and pass it on. I've also seen a kvatter chain which included single siblings of the new parents.

When we asked who can be kvatter, rabbi said anyone you want. It doesn't have to be a couple trying to have children -- it doesn't have to be a couple of child bearing age -- it doesn't have to be a couple at all. Anyone at all you want to honor can do it.

Ive learnt that the kvatter should be a man and woman pair- but that can be a parent/child or two siblings. My (single) brother-in-law and mother-in-law were kvatter for one of my sons.

Yes, a single woman can be kvatter, by herself, no man needed.

My grandmother was kvatter for her baby brother (when she was about 9 yo!) and her older sister was kvatter for her other brother.

My brother came to our bris without his wife. He was kvatter, alone.

And who took over the baby by the men's side?

We were told by a very respected rav that being kvater is a zechus for a yeshua. By my sons bris we had an older single girl pass my baby to her married brother.
The older single got engaged within the year.

I was kvatter when I was single for my brothers baby. I took the baby from SIL and passed to my brother.

ETA: I didn't get married for another 10 years
