My 3 and a half year old and nine year old both sleep 10 hours. My 9 year old could really use the extra time with me. Wht can I do? They both go to sleep at 8:00 and fall asleep between 8:15 and 8;45 and wake up around the same time. Often the younger one sleeps less than the older one!

National Sleep Foundation Recommends New Sleep Times (Feb 2015)
Preschoolers (3-5): Sleep range widened by one hour to 10-13 hours (previously it was 11-13)
School age children (6-13): Sleep range widened by one hour to 9-11 hours (previously it was 10-11)
Teenagers (14-17): Sleep range widened by one hour to 8-10 hours (previously it was 8.5-9.5)

that's actually fairly normal. Children 2-5 need between 10-13 hours of sleep. If they are falling asleep and waking around the same time every day, with no naps, then that's their body clock. I discovered this with my own kids and it made bedtime less of a struggle b/c I wasn't fighting the impossible. My kids would go to sleep 9-9:30 and wake up at 7:30-8:00. When they had to be at preschool at 9. Now these same kids are older and according to the research they need 9-11hrs and they go to sleep 9-10pm and wake up at 7am which is 9-10hrs. All 4 of my kids ranging from 8.5-toddler go to sleep around the same time.

I could've written this same post.
My 3.5 yr old, 6, and 9 yr old all went to bed at the same time tonight.
And 2 fell asleep right away and my 6 yr old is still up.
Some kids need more sleep then others.
And my 3.5 yr. Old is never allowed to nap for over a yr. Bec. When he does he's up until midnight. (Shobbas aft. Yt..)

Thanks for the validation. I thought I might he doing something wrong. They are very different in every way. My older one always needed a lot of sleep and younger one not the best sleeper since birth

What happens when you put the 3 year old to sleep at 7:30?

I used to do that with my (then 2 year old, now almost five year old) son and it backfired majorly. He would wake up between 5 and 6 am and woke up the entire house with him. He now goes to sleep at 9 and wakes up around 7ish every morning.

I have practically no time to myself because I myself need 8-9 hours of sleep but this is the only way I can keep everyone sort of sane.
