My 2 year old is scared to sleep alone. This is a new thing! Just started last week! I'm losing my mind. He needs either me or my husband to lay with him until he falls asleep like 30-60 minutes after going into bed (he's SOOO tired when he goes in. I have no clue what takes him so long to fall asleep).
Last night, he fell asleep around 8:30, and then he woke up and came out of bed at around 11:30. My husband laid with him for 2 hours in my son's bed, and then took him into his own bed with him, where he slept until 6 a.m.
At 3 a.m., I tried transferring him into his own bed. He woke up and looked terrified, and then he ran right back into our bedroom.
HELP! I can't do this!!!

I think there's a natural sleep regression around that 18m-2 yr old age that I often refer to as "separation anxiety 2.0" where they realize that you are not with them at night and they want to be with you at night. I seem to recall it happening with all of my kids--though that time of their lives is often a bit blurry--probably from the lack of sleep. I'm going through it right now with my 21 month old. Most of my kids are around 2 years apart so I have this recollection of "please learn to sleep in your bed before this baby comes"
I've seen recommendations of putting a "place for them to sleep" in your room on the floor.
With my boys they were motivated to stay in their bed by earning a hot wheels car
With my daughter I noticed she liked my body pillow, so I got her one for her room.
