I've always wanted to try lunchables, slim Jims from the gas stations, pepperoni pizza, and BACON.

My mother is a BT. She started keeping kosher to avoid pork and bacon. Her aversion made me not curious at all about the taste.

Shrimp! It smells so delicious.

Can someone describe what it tastes like?

I'm expecting to hear that it tastes like chicken.

I guess lobster. Everyone says they are super-delicious.

But... I must say that I am a BT, but I kept some kashrut rules before becoming observant. I never ate shellfish, and always found the idea of eating lobsters to be repulsive.

To me, they look like huge cockroaches. How can you stick that in your mouth? You see the entire gross body on you plate too. Surprised

Plus the boiling alive cooking method gives me the creeps.

Giyoret, here.

I never had lunchables, but I can't see why this would be different from kosher food.
You can buy kosher beef jerky - Slim Jims are pretty much the same.
Fake cheese on a burger tastes the same as real cheese, imo. But I've never seen a fake bacon cheeseburger in a kosher joint, and miss them!
I have never had fake bacon or pepperoni that compared to the real thing - nothing crisps up the way pork does! I REALLY miss pepperoni pizza.
Seafood is in a category of it's own - I don't know how to describe it. Well, octopus is weird - very rubbery. I could never get into lobster or crab - seems barbaric and gross, and not worth the effort. Sorry, JoyInTheMorning, shrimp doesn't taste like chicken:)

I had kosher lamb bacon once. I thought it was horrible. A waste of good lamb meat.

No idea how close it tastes to bacon made from pork.

Yep. I want to eat the Cinnabons. Also, I've always wanted to taste tacos with meat and cheese and sour cream, and especially Indian food with meat and yogurt.

This tastes EXACTLY like bacon, with half the fat. It makes my little BT heart so happy!

There is no good approximation for shellfish. Surimi (mock crab) doesn't even come close. All I can say is that it tastes exactly what it smells like.

The back half of of cows that we don't eat. Supposed to be much better steak. (I know this is kosher in some places but I have never seen it on sale. Not sure it exists in a hashgacha we eat)

Just curious - does bacon/pork taste more like beef or lamb?

Much, much more tender. There are a few Sephardim who have the mesorah to remove the nerves back there, but trying to find it is impossible. They mostly sell to very high end restaurants.

Bacon tastes like a hickory smoked meat, not any particular animal. If you get the seasoning right, you'll never know the difference. That's why Beef Fry is so wonderful.

Ham is boring. It needs a lot of flavoring to make it taste like anything.

I've had ostrich. It tastes like dark chicken meat. A lot of hype over nothing, and way too expensive.
