I'm usually very organized with holiday menus, but I never ever ever remember what to serve before the fast. Help me with ideas, please!

I try to include in menu food that will keep you full for long time & give energy like brown rice, spinach, peas etc.

There are also some traditional foods like kreplach etc

We do 2 meals.
1st - salad, sesame chicken, potatoes, roasted veggies

2nd
Soup (chicken or veggies) (maybe kreplach from leftover Shabbos soup)
Lettuce salad
Brown rice
Sweet potato
Chicken 1/4s
(I bake the rice, chicken and potatoes in one large pan with water and duck sauce. Brown rice tasted great and really helps for the fast)
Compote

We eat a combination of both meals after the fast.

After the fast I serve a baked good, coffee, fruit and then we have a meat meal. Usually a variation on what I served before the fast.

After the fast is easy. Bagels, cream cheese, lox, tuna salad, egg salad, coffee, juice. Maybe whitefish salad, although I'm the only one who really likes that.

That's what my grandparents served. And my parents. (Yup, my completely non-religious family ALWAYS fasts. Go figure.) And my husbands' grandparents. And his parents.

Before the fast:
Earlier in the day we have salmon , salad, guacamole and challah

Seudas Hamafsekes:
Chicken soup with Kreplach
Breaded chicken cutlets
Mashed potatoes
Broccoli quiche
Apple kugel
Everyone has a bottle of Powerade they need to finish up that they drank throughout the day
A piece of cake with ice cream

After the fast:
Homemade mezonos
Coffee/ water / orange juice
Whole wheat toast
Scrambled eggs or cheese omelette with Israeli salad

Thanks so much for the ideas.

My family, especially my DH, love soup far too much. I fear that if I serve it, they won't eat anything else. But chicken and brown rice sounds perfect.

You've all been very helpful.

I like serving loaded soup- I cut up the chicken and put it back in, lots of vegies, noodles, and kreplach.
It gets even more fluid.
Then baked chicken, rice, vegies.
