You're supposed to make a YT meal with baser vdagim. It's not a must.

No idea, but it makes sense. Fish is much lighter on your stomach than meat or dairy. Bagels and cream cheese is really bad!

Maybe check with Rambam. He had a lot to say about nutrition and digestion.

If someone knows about the Kabbalah and Zohar on this, hopefully they will chime in. I'm woefully ignorant in that department.

May we always be the head! 🐟

I’m not talking about Seuda Hamafseket.
I’m talking about the FIRST meal of the day, I.e. Breakfast on erev Yom Kippur should be fish
Anyone know the source and why.

Also, heard to eat 7 meals, not necessarily wash for bread, except Seuda

Also, my family minhag is to break the fast with bread dipped in oil with salt????

The idea is that the second seuda does not have fish. At any seuda theres an inyan to have fish and meat.
Maybe ask your parents where all those minhagim are coming?

I have never heard of a minhag to have fish for breakfast on erev YK. We eat fish at the lunch seuda only.
Neither have I heard of 7 meals or breaking fast with bread, oil and salt.

The first meal is not necessarily the first meal of the day, but rather the first meal that you sit down and eat together. On erev Yom Kippur, that’s usually lunch. Breakfast everyone does (or doesn’t do) on their own, whenever they want to eat. For some the midday meal is their first, because they haven’t yet eaten. For others it could be the second or third!!

Fish AND meat! We eat fish, then soup and kreplach, and then meat or poultry.

I'm so confused. Are these Chassidish minhagim, or do Yeshivish people do this too? Is there a halachic basis for this, or is it minhag? What days do you do these 7 meals? I usually only eat one meal and a snack per day.

7 meals is a Moroccan custom... know nothing more about it. I wouldn't know where to fit them in!!

We always had fish to break the fast. As I understand it, you are not meant to eat fish before the fast lest you choke on a fish bone and suffocate before Yom Kippur. (I think this may be based on the Rambam.)

Thus it becomes logical to eat fish after the fast. (I suppose it doesn't matter if you choke after you have been forgiven!) We always had a full Yom Tov style Seudah to break the fast, but with fish rather than meat. I think the soup was often chalavi, but mostly it was a parev meal. And cream with dessert.
