My baby is six months old and can roll from stomach to back but not from back to stomach. I've been putting him to sleep in his back but he's up every 1.5-2 hours. I am exhausted. The last two nights he slept on his stomach and he sleeps so much better. Last night he only woke up one time. Is it still so bad at this age for him to sleep on his stomach. There is nothing else in his crib and he sleeps in a sleep sack not with a blanket

I was told that 6 months is fine, if they can pick up their head by themselves.
Also, better to give warmer pajamas and no sleep sack so he can use his legs to help him roll.

Once the baby can roll over they’re fine on their stomach . Do not overheat.

I put my newborns on their stomach so at 6 months it's definitely fine.

Same. As long as baby can move around on their own I think totally safe

If you're worried, maybe you can try an Owlet Smart Sock.

He can roll out of his position, you said. Absolutely nothing would worry me personally as a mother in putting a baby of mine like that to sleep on his stomach.

If he can roll over, you're fine - just make sure there is nothing in the crib that he can get tangled in.

This makes no sense.
You would not say "I leave my bleach in my baby's reach, so leaving it in a 4yo's reach is definitely fine" right?

Amother babyblue, I find it hard to believe that you think babies sleeping on their stomach is on the same caliber as leaving bleach within their reach. I'm laughing.....

You basically wrote - "I disregard guidelines - so its OK". How is that helpful?

Where do you see me saying anything about guidelines?? This is a controversial issue, every pediatrician says different.
I said that by 6 months it's surely ok, which it is by guidelines.

the guidance regarding putting newborns to sleep on their backs isn't controversial.

It's controversial that it prevents SIDS.
Although risk of SIDS clearly increases if a baby USED TO sleeping on his back is placed to sleep on his stomach.

"If you're watching, and the doctor isn't it's fine" is the advice I've gotten. Just make sure his face is sideways and his arms are up. If you're nervous about it, just do it for naps and put him on the back at night.

Of course.
With childproof caps, and the fact that bleach isn't very attractive looking or smelling, its unlikely that even a toddler would ingest bleach. And a baby couldn't reach it.
Sleeping on the stomach, however, substantially increases the risk of death for a baby. Its a whole lot more dangerous than bleach.
SIDS risk peaks between 1 and 4 months, so stomach sleeping is less risky at 6 months than earlier. Also, once the baby can turn back to front and front to back, its no longer necessary to put the baby to sleep on her back (since she can turn over anyway), and that should happen by about 7 months anyway.

Doctors can get in trouble if they don't toe the official guideline.
Doctors no longer have freedom to practice medicine per THEIR opinion.
