8-10weeks is what I think is recommended. If you have people traveling from abroad, probably more notice than that, if possible.

Sounds like you might want to specify which circles you run in, how long the engagement was, etc.
I usually get invitations 3-4 weeks before the wedding.

6-8 weeks is best, esp if you have many guests from out of town, by which I mean not The Bronx or Metuchen NJ but any place that will require either more than about 2 hours driving or overnight lodging.

I say 6 weeks for everyone. But if I am close enough with someone that they will actually be shlepping in from far, I will have given them the actual information long before then so they can arrange their schedules accordingly.

As someone who’s made three weddings.
Local— 2-3 weeks with return cards
1-2 without return cards
When you send too early people don’t always remember
Out of town 3-5 weeks
And call them or anyone else that might need to make arrangements
I had invitations that came back from israel weeks after the wedding

Yikes.
Caterers ask for final numbers 2 weeks in advance. If you don't mail out invitations until then, what do you tell them?
Also, people make plans.
If I were to receive an invitation only 2 to 3 weeks before a wedding, I'd figure that I'm on the D-List, and I'm only being invited because they need to make the numbers and there's no one else. But that may be community-based.

Sorry. You are right. I made weddings in halls that have a minimum of 180 couples. And I and my mechutanim don’t have a large crowd. So it didn’t really did not make a difference.
There is no D list. Everyone is invited.
We are at a stage where I had 20 invites to weddings and other simchos in one month.
So yes it is definitely depends on community and other variables.
