DH was s-xually abused by a doctor in NY in childhood. He is ready to bring a law suit.
We don't have experience with the legal system or anything related to this. Any suggestions or sources of information would be helpful. Thank you.

I don't have a recommendation, but I just want to lend my support to him and to you. I'm so sorry this happened to him. And I commend him for his bravery in facing it now.

Do you have any proof it happened? Has there been other patients coming forward making similar claims? If not, then while I would encourage him to come forward, the burden of proof is on your dh and it will be difficult to win a case without evidence.

He should call the Sovri helpline for their list of resources:

How many years ago did this happen? I was considering suing a hospital over a childhood experience as well, but it was dead at thr starting gate as they had already expunged the records after 20 years.

This. The Jewish Community Watch can probably also help.

NY recently passed the Child Victims Act, which significantly lengthens the statute of limitations, so now is a good time to file. The organizations listed above are all good places to start.

Child victim act of NY one year blanket of no statue of limitations ends this August 2020.
Your husband should act now.
Once the spotlight is on this doctor, other victims might come forward. Multiple allegations sometimes negates "proof".

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.
DH is taking advantage of the new law in NY mentioned above. The offender is already known so it will be a matter of demonstrating that dh was one of his (sadly) many victims.

I don't want to include any more details, even annonymously, since this is part of a pending law suit. I'll just say that I always noticed that dh acted out of character around doctors. If that applies to your dh, ask him to think about doctors he saw as a child and how they treated him.
