I put a whole chicken in my crockpot last night for soup, and I just saw that the absorbent pad was floating in it. According to USDA online it’s fine to eat food if the pad didn’t break, which it didnt, but I’m still nervous. It was a whole chicken though so kinda of expensive, what would you do? It slow cooked for like 12 hours.

I don't have an answer. But I once did that by accident and didn't notice until after it was served and eaten.

It's fine. Any juices in the pad were well cooked so no worries about salmonella from raw juices.

Op it sounds unappetizing but I think you're fine. Don't tell anyone. Just dump the pad.

I’d toss it, but that’s just me, super careful and easily grossed out.

Last shabbos I realized I I cooked my soup with the pad also. Like someone said upthread, as per the FDA, its ok. I dont get into the habit of course, but I cant afford to throw away food, and its also assur to toss food that is ok to eat. So... OP you are fine.

It's actually called a pamper by most companies that manufacturer them.

a lot of meat and chicken comes with an absorbant pad in the tray to absorb the juices. Its thinner but obvioulsy made of similar materials to pads or pampers.

Lol didn’t mean to shock everyone there!
I ended up throwing it out...multiple family members said they would, and I noticed a corner of the pad was opening up, and it had been cooking for like 12 hours so it seemed like a lot of time for chemicals to leak out. BH I was able to just throw some chicken in the oven for dinner instead.
