Since I am having such a hard time finding afforable maternity clothes in my size ... is it crazy to put a cute belt or ribbon above my bump over my giant tops? Where could I get such a cute belt in Boro Park?

Really, though. I'm not so great at fashion, and don't really follow trends, and do my own thing, but I am having a serious case of pregnancy vanity and I don't want to look like an idiot. Please help!

Seems to me that would only emphasize your ballooning belly and burgeoning bosom, which strikes me as being in poor taste as well as not in the spirit of tznius, but whatever rings your chimes. I for one was never troubled by wearing tents and satisfied my vanity by giving extra care to everything from the neck up.

Hm, interesting. I shouldn't be surprised that there will be different opinions, lol. I guess I feel like ... in my pre-pregnant life, I always dressed more modestly (in terms of things being fitted) than many frum people I see (in Boro Park). I am probably pretty middle-of-the-road, really, but with my own style. I wear a lot of loose clothes, but also some more fitted sweaters and dresses.
"Real" maternity clothes are rather fitted, often empire waist – but I can't afford them, or find them in my size. Even the more tent-like ones are fitted nicely. But, not an option for me, so I end up wearing 2X and 3X tops, which really look VERY shlumpy. And given that so many (not in Boro Park, but less frum people) wear skin-tight clothes, it seems like a belted tent-like tunic-length top with a flowy skirt is still pretty tznius, and in line with what I usually wear. There's not much I can do from the neck up to change the fact that I look like an overweight child wearing my Father's dress shirt, lol.
Thanks for the input!

So, (just trying to figure out where you are coming from!) does this mean that you would consider a dress like this not tznius (aside from the v-neck, of course)? Faux Wrap Maxi

Not especially. But the belt disappears into the dress and doesn’t call attention to itself. A lot depends on the fabric. I would consider it not tzanua if it were a thin, clingy fabric like a knit jersey or a silky loose weave that outlined your shape, less so if it were something like a woven cotton that stands away from the body and doesn’t readily develop static cling.

Many many many many maternity tops and dresses have an empire waiste (which is the hr basic shape of belted loose clothes). I dont see why not! Amazon has cute, cheap belts.

Ah, I see. I am talking about belting a stiff cotton dress shirt, which otherwise looks ridiculously huge to the point of disrespectfully shlumpy:) (If you think that looking too shlumpy is a problem...) For the most part, the giant jersey knit tops fall nicely enough that I don't feel the need to do anything else with them. Thanks for the clarification:)

Love belts.
I like sash belts that I tie into a bow right above my bump (usually for dressier outfits).
Today I'm wearing a huge black top,
I was going to wear a leopard print belt but it was constricting me so I left it at home. It looked so cute though. Go for it!

Thanks, everyone:)
amother Chartreuse, thanks for taking the time to search and post. Unfortunately, $20 is already too much for me to spend on an everyday top, especially one that is just for several months. I usually shop at thrift stores, where tops are $5-$10. If I could find a tznius nursing top, it MIGHT be worth that much, but I don't see the point if I have to wear a shell under.
