Ds will be 3 at the end of January. As I'm shopping for the new season, should I buy him regular pants, or leggings? He's very small for his age, but once he has his haircut, his actual age will be apparent. Also, we're chassidish, so a bit more conservative- I wouldn't put tight jeans on him.
I know many people here think it's strange for boys to wear leggings, but here in Brooklyn, it's actually almost odd, or at least unfashionable, when babies and toddlers wear "big boy" pants, so please don't respond if you don't understand this mindset.

Or, should I buy leggings for now, and switch to pants once he turns 3?

you can get jeggings. it doesn't have to be a jean color. it's basically leggings with pockets in the back.

Leggings is fine.
H&m has really tight pants that are really cute. I have a bunch for my son (3 at end of December, and super tall/ looks older than he is)
ETA- they're on the girls tab, and they're called treggings. They have heaven corduroy ones also

I put my son in zara or h&m boys leggings/joggers/knit pants at that age. They are fitted, neat and comfortable, but clearly designed for boys.

Leggings on 3 year old boys look girly. There are special legging/jeggings type sweatpants for boys. Most department stores have them.

The cat and Jack brand from Target makes joggers that fit really nicely

Zara has colored jeans in lots of colors. I’d probably wear skinny pants not leggings.

Please post links.

I found the treggings but would love to see the suggestions from the other posters.
Also, how do they run?

Thanks!

The absolute best are the lil legs pants. They're a little pricy but worth every penny. They fit like leggings (maybe a little looser but still a tight fit) but have pockets and a button like regular pants.

My son wears them every shabbas and we get compliments every time.

I also really like these but they're more of a true legging-but the pockets and the slightly thicker fabric still make them more pants-like.

I personally don't like the look of jogger-type pants. I think they're too casual and sweatshirt-y. I'm not Chassidish but I live near a community with a lot of chassidim and from what I see they prefer tighter-fitting boys clothes as well.

I got them in black.
They also come in jersey, and the jersey one comes in a heaven gray plaid.
And they come in corduroy which I am drooling over.
And denim.

Just type into the search bar "Treggings"

I keep my 3-4 year olds in legging type (the thicker types mentioned) cuz they have a really hard time with making it to the bathroom with pants that are stiff, buttoned etc, and making themselves look neat after.

No leggings on a 3 year old boy, esp if he's wearing a yarmulke. There's enough decent looking pants out there. If you really want you can do jeggings.
Jogger pants or sweatpants are fine too.

What is your child most comfortable in? In your Op, you make it sound like your only options are leggings, tight jeans, or “big boy pants”. There are a ton of other options. My boys never wore any of the above at 3. I’m thankful leggings on boys were not a thing when I had small boys... I put them in comfortable joggers at this age or any other soft, not tight, elastic waist pants.

Check out Target Cat and Jack pants. Super comfortable and affordable!
