I am planning a trip to the DC area. The downtown hotels seem pricey,and parking it outrageous. I don't mind staying in a MD or VA suburb, as long as the hotel is very near a Metro station and it wouldn't take more than 15 or 20 minutes to get to the tourist-y areas of DC.
Do you have any recommendations? Arlington? Alexandria? Silver Spring?
Are these much further of a drive coming from the NY area?

We stayed in Silver Spring and it worked out well.

Silver Spring. Lots of kosher food and minyanim. Just be aware that metro is pretty pricey so may be worth factoring in when considering costs.
