My 2 month old has a red rash in his diaper area for a few days now. I don't think it's a diaper rash (bc of the below reasons), but can't find anything else on Google.

1. I change his diaper very frequently
2. I applied Balmax the last few days, didn't help.
3. It doesn't bother him at all, not even when I change his diaper.

Anyone know what this may be?

Thank you.

You should check it out to make sure it’s not herpes from the bris. I know it’s uncomfortable to check it out, but it has happened in the past and can be dangerous.

If it’s in the inner area, it’s probably pinworms.
If on the outer area, it could be fungal. You need something that kills fungus and balmex doesn’t do that.

Fungal/yeast infection/thrush. If you're nursing, are your breasts itchy/irritated? Is your baby's tongue whitish?

You think herpes can show up 2 months later?

It's both inner and outer. I think I'll go to the doctor.

Thanks all!

Yes I nurse. My breasts are fine, and his tongue isn't white.

Herpes in a newborn in that area IME looks like bug bites, generally on their feet, including the soles. My now 6 year old got herpes after his bris from a relative who changed his pamper and had a herpes sore on her hand. Maybe other cases are different, but that is what his looks like. Now, at age 6, if he has a flare up, it is herpes sores in the private area, but until age two they were on his legs and feet.

Sounds fungal. Get nystatin from doctor.

If it's a raised rash, then its likely fungal, nystatin is the prescription strength from a doctor, but it can be treated with OTC lotramin AF/clotrimazole. It will not go away with just Balmex or any other diaper rash cream.

UPDATE:

We went to the doctor, he said it was a regular rash and I shkukd continue applying cream.

I applied baby powder after two changes, and it's almost gone. I guess the wipes are too wet for him. I'll always apply some baby powder from now on.

Just a PSA, if anyone else may benefit.
