I have an appointment in Boro park and will be coming in one day and leaving the next. I know nothing about NY, and would really appreciate if you could help me with the following (andany other tips you might have):

1) Is there any one out of the 3 NYC airports that I should choose over the others, or any one/s that I should avoid?

2) I'd like to stay within close distance of Boro park (my appointment location) and also be near places to eat, and get a little clothing shopping done in my free time as well. Is Boro park a good place for shopping? Are there hotels in/near Boro Park? Or should I stay in a different neighborhood? I don't have people that I would feel comfortable staying by and would rather stay in a hotel. Any specific recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

JFK airport is closest to Brooklyn.
There are 2 hotels on/near 13th Ave, main shopping area and full of eateries.
Park House 1206 48 718.871.8100
And the Avenue Plaza (newer) 4624 13th Ave 718.552.3200

There are a few places in Boro Park that are great for clothing shopping that you may want to check out- Junees and Brendas on 18th Avenue are coming to mind.

JFK is a just drop further than LaGuardia, but it's the preferred airport for this area.
You can stay at one or two of the Jewish hotels near 13th Ave, Avenue Plaza Hotel (nicer) or Park House Hotel. If you need a different recommendation, please let me know.
There are tons of shopping and food options on 13th Ave. You can just walk and browse.

Laguardia may be a drop closer but it's a mess and can take twice the time in traffic.
We pay extra to book tickets thru jfk as oppose to laguardia

Thanks so much for all the helpful info! In looking at hotels, I also saw one called "The Sunset Hotel" that is nearby. Anyone know anything about that?

Thank you also for the specific shopping store recommendations. Any other specific clothing stores I should make sure to go to? Is there a good Shabbos robe shop in the area?

Avenue Plaza is more updated with smaller rooms. Park House has huge rooms and suites. Both have very nice breakfast included. Shopping is great all along 13th with many restaurants. Have gotten some great sheitels from Yaffa on my visits there.

What's the address of Sunset? Then we will know if its close enough but I doubt it. If I remember correcrly it's too far for shabbes use. Stay on the 2 mentioned above and you will enjoy experiencing the whole boro park life. I have a feeling that Sunset means taking lots of ubers.

Google Maps tells me that the Sunset Hotel is at 60th and 11th. This is on the very SW edge of Boro Park, but it looks very cheap, so you will have to balance your priorities. Easy to take the 60th St bus to get father east, but you will likely be doing a lot of walking to get up to the main shops, which are 10ish blocks north. If walking is and problem for you, or if you aren't comfortable tsking the bus, this is probably not a good option. If the Sunset saves you a lot of money, and money is slightly or very much more important than convenience, than go for it. Just realize that you will be shlepping more than if you stay at a BP central hotel.
