I have New Balance sneakers that chafe the backs of my heels terribly. I have sores on top of sores that won't heal.
Do you think it's the sneaker or it's something about my foot?
If it is the sneaker, can you post a link to a quality, comfortable pair of sneakers? Ideally not over $100.
Thanks.

Did you try the sneakers on in a store before buying them, or did you buy on the internet?
Running shoes, IMO, are something you need to actually try on. It's not a question of quality (most major brands manufacture very comfortable, quality shoes), it's a question of fit. New Balance shoes are great - if they fit you.

Internet.
I always have this issue when I first buy shoes, but it usually fades with wear. It hasn't with my sneakers.
Which stores in Flatbush sell good sneakers at a decent price?

Modell's has great prices. Nikes are usually very comfy.

Are these sneakers for running or just general exercise ?
Either way I recommend going to a sports store such as jack rabbit or road runners where they fit you for your needs and give you the best sneaker for you. Worth the money.

Shoes (and sneakers) chafe at the heels because there is movement up and down of the foot on the shoe.
This can be because the shoes are too big, too deep, not tied tight enough or the back part (where the foot enters) is too large.
Are you lacing all the holes, including the ones at the very top?

My mom used to wear new balance for years until I convinced her to try Michael Kords (the “Allie” line). They are more stylish and comfortable she claims (she is over 60). The newer models can be over 100 but older styles can often be found cheaper in the 60s range

I wear the booties, so comfy...
I used to only be able to wear New Balance, until I tried this one.

No, I meant do they take your size? Pretty sure I'm a 6.5 but I think one foot is slightly bigger than the other.

Try sneaker corner on Ave I and Nostrand if they're still around. When I was a kid/teen, it was the only place my mom used to buy me sneakers. They had a very knowledgeable staff. They also had another location in Sheepshead Bay.

Most of the time when I buy shoes, the clerk asks me my size, and then he brings out shoes, and I try them on. Then we go up or down a size, trying on multiple sizes and models until I am satisfied with at least one pair.
It takes a while, especially if I test out the top candidates on a treadmill.
