I’m going to my first Israeli wedding and not sure what to wear. Is it generally less fancy than here? Would a nice sweater it top with jewelry suffice?

Depends on the crowd. Charedi weddings are very formal, all others are less so. Usually American shabbos clothes are more than enough.

It’s a very chareidi bunch.

As a NYer I was ridiculously, embarassingly overdressed at the Israeli wedding I went to (I wore typical NY wedding wear)

Wouldn't be fancy enough.
Should be nicer than Shabbos dress or dressy top and skirt

I’m so not fancy but when I have a wedding to go to (like I do in the hours) I look adequate.

Depends on crowd and relationship to bride/groom. For Chareidi family- a sibling or sibling in law as well as for aunt or uncle, niece or nephew, gown is appropriate.
For friend, cousin, beautiful dress.

My rule of thumb is to wear what I’m comfortable in. No-one is looking at me. They’re all busy with the kallah (and the cute little kids in gowns). Wear a nice shabbos dress, elegant shoes ,makeup and some jewelry.
And enjoy the wedding.

Israeli weddings that I've been to have been much simpler than American weddings.
